Office Furniture Needn't Be Gray

Why is it that the token office plant is always shriveled up, sad, tinged with brown and dying a slow death? If you can judge the souls of a workforce by the state of the office plant, it would be a sorry state of affairs across the nation. Millions of lost souls struggling to be creative in their gray, drab offices with gray, drab office furniture are waiting to be rescued by a bit of colour and vibrancy. It's not rocket science - investing in sleek, stylish, colorful and comfortable office furniture isn't a massive cost when you consider the investment you're making in your workforce's mental health and well being.

Comfortable office furniture

It may sound extreme, but unattractive, ugly and uncomfortable offices dampen creativity and productivity. A recent survey found that almost 40% of employees feel the design of their office and poor office furniture prevents them from being their best.

Make-over your office

We spend the majority of our waking day in our office environment, sat on office furniture and surrounded by work colleagues. If it is all gray and ugly, it will have an impact on moral. In the short term it may be a turn off for bosses to spend a bit of money to improve their office furniture and interior design, but in the long run jeopardizing employee's comfort and productivity can by far more costly. Pleasant office furniture and environments are a major pull in attracting and retaining staff.

Good office furniture and the right environment

But it isn't just good office furniture that can affect staff - light, temperature and air-conditioning also plays a big part. Even if you have the best office furniture money can buy, ergonomic accessories and chill out sofas - it's no use if you're sat under a vent that blasts arctic winds across your desk. Or if your office furniture is sat next to a radiator that never shuts off, even in July. Even sitting under harsh fluorescent lights (often flashing as the bulb fails) can make staff miserable.

Office furniture can boost moral

Grey, ugly, uncomfortable office furniture combined with poor lighting, overheating, or dry, dusty air conditioning can all have a negative effect on employee's physical health and mental outlook.

So what is the solution?

* Invest in comfortable office furniture.

* Buy plants and look after them - plants help balance the stagnant carbon dioxide that can accumulate around your desk and feed oxygen back to your brain. It's thought that a peace lily can absorb 95% of your computers micro-radiation.

* Have fresh flowers, the scent can balance unpleasant aromas and cheer up gray space.

It's in an employee's best interest to attract and retain good quality staff - we spend a massive amount of our lives in an office environment, make sure you have good office furniture, and think about injecting color, plants, vibrancy and comfort to your office - so your staff want to be there and not dreaming of being somewhere more inviting.

Furnish Your Home With Antique Furniture And Make A Difference

Even though the media around the world are doing their best to show us different there is still a massive amount of building work going on around the globe. Much of the construction that is going up is industrial and commercial building but a fair amount of the work is also residential building. As the population of the world grows then they have to be housed somewhere so it looks like the residential building boom will continue for some years to come yet. As we are all aware, with the population boom as well as the mass exodus from many of the poorer Eastern European countries to the wealthier countries within Europe this building work will need to continue for many years to come to satisfy the demands. The big problem with building on these sort of scales is that generally everything is built to a price point rather than a specification, this leads to mile after mile of the same looking houses being built all over the countryside with no discernible differences between any of them from the outside. Many of the countries where this is happening are famed and renowned for their wonderful architecture so it seems a shame that for the foreseeable future this is what many of these countries are going to look like. If you own one of these mass produced houses what can you do to make yours stand out from all the other miles and miles of mediocrity?

Although the exterior of these mass produced houses leads a lot to be desired it is possible to create quick an individual look inside the house. Luckily for many people interior design has come a long way in the past 10 years and is much more high profile than it was in the early 90's, thanks mainly to television programmes and interior design magazines. Solely using these as your reference points though you would fall into the same trap as many others, simply replicating the looks that the media push and highlight and creating a blandness that you could find in any other mass produced home in the land.

The trick is to be individual, choose a style of interior decoration that you like and mould a style around that. Give your style a little thought to ensure that it is workable and then slowly try to piece it all together. To create an individual style does not happen overnight and cannot be achieved in just a few shopping trips. You may find yourself looking through furniture sales and antiques shops for some while before you find a piece that you think would add a special touch to a room. To achieve your desired look may take some time to complete so patience may be needed.

To create a totally unique look within your home antique furniture is a great way to go. The beauty with antique furniture is that it does not have to make your house look like an old gentleman's club; in many cases antique furniture can be quite subtle and add a totally individual look to any home. Thought must be applied when looking to design a home around antiques, differing periods offer up totally different looks to other periods, mixing and matching pieces of furniture from totally different periods can create a terrible look so it is always best to what is available to you before you plough headlong into buying up antique furniture for your home

Furnishing your home with antique furniture certainly is a way to break away from the same old interior design styles that we see in homes all over the country. Antique furniture does not in all cases work out to be dearer than modern mass produced furniture. You could end up with a totally wonderful looking unique home that has cost less to furnish than many of the homes in your street furnished with no style and heritage.

Country Living With Wood Console Tables

The wooden console table often forms the centerpiece of 'country living' as I am sure that most of you would already know. Wooden furniture and similar furniture often form the backdrop of most of the country style houses. Plastic do not come into play at these settings. Wooden furniture is generally used to a large extent in most of the country houses as there is a need for furniture to be sturdy and one that does nto break at the slightest sign of pressure or stress. Take for example, the wooden console tale, as it is the console table would also at times form the function of the side tray and there are times when it would be required to carry a heavy load on it. One cannot expect a plastic table to carry the same load without buckling under due pressure. Which is why the wooden console table as well as other similar wooden furniture form the main backbone as far as 'country living' goes by.

The neat thing about wooden console tables is that one can get them with any engravings that one wants or just get them plain. In addition, such console tables, chairs and dining tables can all be color coordinated to the room according to the drapes and the color of the room. Of course, one can paint over the furniture, but it is always a good idea to keep the natural color of such furniture and you can vary between the light and the dark tones of the wood and use that for color co-ordination. The thing about the wooden furniture is that in spite of all the protection that one has to provide them to protect them from water damage and all that, they certainly bring this old world charm and none more so than the console table. Of all the furniture settings that one can adapt to most of the natural decors, the wooden console table is one of the best. It can literally adapt to any of the settings no matter what time period the room is made out in, be it Victorian theme or anything else.

Naturally where there is wood, there is always the danger of termites, but this can easily be handled with the right amount of protection. With wooden furniture especially console tables, it is always a good idea to use the varnish as the varnish literally can make the console table and other furniture glow with an inner light and in addition offer then the much needed protection from water damage. The wooden furniture and the console table performs the perfect setting to ones home and they often are the best furniture that one can choose if one wants ones room or ones house to be in a 'country living' style

The Convenience of Sofa Beds

As family or guests decide to visit, many of us with small apartments become concerned. Will they opt to go to a hotel room instead? What's a person to do?

The convertible sofa beds are a collection of sofa beds for those who not only want to live well, but to do so in fashion. From sitting, storage, to a sleeping zone and more, you will embrace the flexibility of the eye-catching, highly functional design.

They redefine the meaning of multi-function. The smooth lines of the contemporary styled sofa beds remain uncluttered by ornate designs. And yet opening a sofa bed from the seating position is an experience in itself. Just pull the sofa bed seat up to reveal storage underneath and move it with the indolent elegance you'd expect from something this effortlessly pleasing to the eye. Once you hear a click, simply move the seat down and it becomes a bed providing a spacious sleeping zone for guests. Revert it back to the sofa position for ample seating for get-togethers.

When you have chosen your style, go on to choose your desired fabric. The microfiber fabrics of the sofa beds have a sensual appeal that just cannot be imitated. Lately, microfiber fabrics have become a timeless classic, and on a sofa bed certain colors take on a fresh, urban edge. This is tradition re-energized. The microfiber exudes perfection even as it delicately reflects its surroundings, creating a style statement that blends in as much as it stands out.

So next time your guests visit for a day or two, they'll have the perfect sofa bed to sleep on that can offer convenience and retro-contemporary styling. The convertible sofa beds are a perfect choice.

Finding the Right Bed for Your Size

In 1988, sleep expert Dr Chris Idzikowski discovered that trading in your old bed for a new, more comfortable one could give you an average of 42 minutes extra sleep -four times as effective as a typical over-the-counter sleep remedy. So if you're feeling cramped in your sleeping space, or you're tossing and turning on an uncomfortable mattress, one of the most important things you can do for your health is to invest in a new bed.

Choosing a bed for a tall person

According to the Sleep Council, most of us are sleeping in a bed that's too small. 75 % of double beds sold are still the standard size: 4' 6" x 6' 3" (135 x 190cm), yet men and women in the UK are getting taller. Each generation is on average 0.75 inches taller than the last, which means that within the next 50 years, the average man is likely to be 6 foot tall. The Sleep Council recommends that since we don't sleep with our heads right up against the head board, we should choose a bed that's at least 6in (15cm) taller than the tallest person sleeping in it. If you or your partner are above average height, even upgrading to a 5' x 6' 6" (150 x 200cm) king size could make a dramatic difference to your night's sleep while taking up very little extra space in your bedroom. And at 6' x 6' 6" (180 x 200cm), a super king size should give most tall people the extra length they need. If you're very tall, an alternative is to consider a custom made bed. While this will be more expensive, the advantage is that the bed can be designed to your exact specifications to suit you and your home.

Choosing a mattress for a heavy person

If you or your partner is heavy, a standard double bed probably won't be wide enough for you to sleep comfortably without disturbing each other. Like tall people, you'll benefit from a king- or super king-sized bed to give you that extra room. However, a further difficulty for heavier people is that when you sleep on a conventional innerspring, air, or foam mattress, your body weight pulls you down. As the compressed air or springs push back, your skin and blood vessels are squeezed between the force of your weight and the upwards force of the mattress. This causes pressure points, which constrict circulation in areas like the shoulder blades, buttocks, head, heels, hips or elbows. Pressure points can result in numbness, stiffness and pain and lead to a restless and unsatisfying night's sleep. The heavier you are, the more likely this is to be a problem. An overweight person needs a firm and supportive mattress made of a higher density material such as memory foam to relieve pressure and ensure restful sleep. Memory foam, or visco-elastic foam, was originally developed by NASA to ease the pressure of extreme G-force on astronauts. A memory foam mattress moulds perfectly to the unique shape of your body, providing excellent support and reducing pressure points. A memory foam mattress can reduce your need to toss and turn during the night by up to 80 %, resulting in a much deeper, more restful sleep. It is also very durable and will continue to provide comfort and support for around 15 years.

Finding the perfect bed for you

When choosing a new bed or mattress, make sure both you and your partner visit the showroom together. Don't be afraid to try out a number of beds by lying on them to find the one that's most comfortable. It's worth investing time into finding the right bed, as a good night's sleep makes so much difference to your health and well-being. Remember that the level of firmness or softness that suits you best is a personal choice, so never let a salesman talk you into buying anything that doesn't feel right. Once you've got your ideal bed, make sure your bedding and bed linen fit perfectly too. If your covers are too large for your bed, they can easily slip and slide off. If they're too small, they won't cover you properly and you'll wake up cold. Most department stores carry a good range of bed linen sizes; however, you can also find specialist firms who will make custom-sized bed linen for you.

How to Choose a Dining Table Set

A new and gentle use of all homeowners' desire a warm and welcoming dining room where they can entertain at holidays and celebrate special occasions. There are as many dining tables on the market as there are decorating tastes.

Design: Although it can be unfair to pair traditional chairs with a contemporary table, and vice versa, try to find pieces that share a common design element. If the table has a sinuous cabriole leg, look for a chair with the same line in the leg or back, or choose upholstery with swirls on it. If the table is square or rectangular, look for chairs with a square or rectangular seat but a dining table set with curvy edges and quadrilateral corners include additional sophistication to the style. A round table that's big enough to seat 10 probably won't fit in your dining room, and opposing guests will be so far away it will defeat the whole purpose of buying a round table.

Size: The dining table should be scaled appropriately for the room: a small dining room looks best with a small table, a big dining room demands a big table. To allow adequate space for seating and circulation, make sure there's at least 48 inches between each edge of the table and the nearest wall or piece of furniture. If traffic doesn't pass behind the chairs on one side of the table, 36 inches should be sufficient on that side because the `Entryway` is more congested then any other part of the house. Ideally, the dining table should measure 36-42 inches across. Narrower than that leaves no place in the middle for food; wider than that makes conversation difficult with the person seated opposite you.

Capacity: Although the table should be scaled to the room, it should be scaled to your needs as well. How many visitors/Guests can you house on a single coffee table? If you host frequent large dinners, you'll need a large table. If you plan on using the dining table primarily for family meals or small gatherings, a smaller table will work better. (There's nothing inviting about four people dispersed around a 12-foot table.) If you only entertain large groups on an occasional basis, consider buying a smaller table that can expand to a certain decent size. To figure out how many people you'll be able to seat around a given table, allot 24 inches in width for each diner.

Style: Let architecture of the house decor and the other elements in the room dictate the style of dining table you choose. If the atmosphere is traditional, a traditional table will usually look best; if it's contemporary, go with a contemporary table. If you're buying a wooden table, select a wood that appears in the architecture or in another piece of furniture in the room, so the table will feel like a cohesive element in the home's decor. If you're going with a painted piece, repeat the color in the walls or other items in the room.

Finishing: `Walnut and mahogany` always provide traditional `Wood` look to a piece of dining furniture! Finishing of a `Cherry; oak and pine, tend to look more casual to the visitors. A new technology of `Furniture Artistry` includes a term called `Extensia` which means that the length of the `Dining table` can be extended to a desired level of easy accessibility. (These featured overlapping panels can be extended to nearly double the table's length.) How concerned are you about staining and scratching? A wood tabletop is more susceptible to damage than glass, but can be refinished if needed. Traditional wood tables are a bit more forgiving, because they tend to feature carvings or figured veneers that help hide irregularities in the surface, while contemporary wood tables have little to distract you from errant scratches or water rings. Glass-topped tables are less susceptible to spills and staining, but show fingerprints more readily, so they require some diligence to maintain. Many hosts don't like glass tabletops because you can see your guests' laps and feet, but table settings will usually obscure the view and converting a `Transparent` view to `Translucent` view.

Modern/Antique: Adjustability: Antique dining tables can add a sense of age and character to a room, but offer their own shopping challenges. If the table has leaves, be sure you take them out and try them before you buy, to make sure they fit correctly and match the finish of the rest of the table. If you're buying an old farmhouse table or similarly rustic piece, check the height to make sure it's suitable for dining (29-30 inches is standard), and try sitting at the table with the dining chairs you plan to use. (Some old tables have aprons that hang down from the top, making it hard to slide your legs underneath.)

Quality: Last--but certainly not least--buy the best table you can afford. You'll remember the quality long after you've forgotten the price and indeed! A circumstance of receiving a `Heavy Discount` on some selected items purchased through an agent or retailer directly wit bargaining facility to desired customer.

Antique Furniture Buying Guide

What constitutes an antique and what is it worth? You should know everything there is to know about your area of antiquing to make wise buying decisions, including what to look for in a valuable piece. This article will give tips on value, searching, finding and condition of antique furniture.

The word antique is used to describe anything old that is fairly rare. Old is considered to be anything that is over 100 years old. Rare is used to described an item that is limited in its supply or, in other words, there are hardly any of the item around anymore. You must have a discerning eye while shopping for antiques because even if a piece looks old does not mean it is an antique. Furthermore, even when something really is old, if no one wants it; it will be worthless. On the flip side, an item can be newer than 100 years old and will be very collectible if it is in high demand, thus it will have a high value. A pieces value is based on demand in connection with limited supply.

There are approximately 15 major areas of antiques, to name a few: furniture, toys, ceramics, and jewelry. When you decide to start collecting antiques you will need to choose an area or two and study and learn all you can about it to really be successful. You want to be able to know a really valuable find when you see it, and know you are getting it at a good price. Each area of antiques has its own history, value, rules, frauds, junk and exciting finds. For this article we are going to go over what to know about antique furniture.

Antique furniture is popular and will almost always appreciate in value because of it's solid wood construction and beautiful craftsmanship. Furniture today is not built like it used to be and people want pieces with style and character that will hold up over time. When you buy antique furniture you should always buy what you like and what you will want in your house, unless you are going to turn around and sell it for a profit.

There are four sub-categories in antique furniture: English, European (which is usually French or German), American, and Far Eastern, which is usually Chinese. English furniture is divided into Victorian or Pre-Victorian. American furniture will be Shaker, New York or Western. And Far Eastern furniture is described by the period or date of manufacture. Most people will enjoy one of these types of furniture and begin collecting and decorating their home with that one type.

The type of wood the piece is made from is of significance in determining value. Mahogany, walnut, oak and pine are the most sought after. If the piece has it's original hardware and wood panels it will be worth a lot more than a piece that has been "re-done" due to broken parts. If you have a piece of furniture that is not in top condition, with scratches on the finish, leave it alone if you believe it has some value. Never strip and refinish it. If a leg is loose on a table you can leave it alone or put a dab of wood glue in the joint. Never remove a leg and re-fit it. If a piece is a bit wobbly this is a good indication that it is authentically old. Make sure you inspect the entire piece of furniture for matching wood. Sometimes the back panels had been damaged and they will be replaced with another type of wood.

Caring for a piece of antique furniture is important in preserving it and the value it holds. You should always use pure beeswax (carnauba) to clean and polish your antiques. Lemon oil is a big mistake because it dries out the wood, darkens the patina and will definitely decrease the furniture's value. When shopping for furniture, rub your finger across the finish and if an oil film is left on your finger the dealer has used lemon oil on it. Don't buy it.

You can find antique furniture just about anywhere. First search your attic and your parent's attics. You can even try and get into the attics of the neighbor's homes. Attics are the best places to find antiques people have forgotten about. To find some more real deals, go to rummage sales, garage sales, estate sales, yard sales, thrift stores, pawn shops and flea markets. You might be able to pick up an antique at a really low price. Estate sales are usually the best place to find antiques because the items belonged to an elderly person. There are also antique stores, malls, dealers and auctions. You will be able to find tons of furniture and antiques here, but you may have to pay more, and you will definitely need to be savvy so you won't get ripped off. You can expect to pay or get a variety of prices on antique furniture.

When you are new at buying antiques stick with one item and then start learning about other types of antiques.

Remember, condition is the most important aspect in determining value, so inspect each piece thoroughly. Do not buy on impulse, take your time and do some research to make sure it is an authentic piece. Don't do all your research in the store you will be purchasing it from, go elsewhere and get second opinions. Most of all, have a good time and only buy what you like and you will never be stuck with something you don't want.

How To Choose The Right Furniture For You

Long gone are the days when office furniture meant a simple computer desk and a filing cabinet. In this day and age, we have all sorts of technology to accommodate for. There are photocopiers, drafting tables, large networks of workstations, and much more to take into account.

Getting the best deal on this excess in office furniture can be tough. And the question arises as to whether not the extra money is worth it in the first place- so what is a business to do?

Discount Office Furniture Vs Brand Name Office Furniture

There is a certain place for budget cuts, and then certain places for excess spending. Office furniture is one of the categories that floats somewhere in the middle between the two.

Some claim that brand name furniture that specializes in new-age design and comfort is worth the money. The reasoning behind this claim is simple: happy and comfortable workers are more efficient than uninspired and unhappy workers.

One good example of this is Google, who is a company that specializes in employee satisfaction. Google remains to be one of the best places to work for- and if you've seen their office furniture, you can guess it wasn't the discount brand at the handy shop. Google claims that the extra style inspires creativity- and we can't disagree.

But discount furniture is what most businesses side with. After all, how much more money can one spend before trying to make employees more inspired? For most businesses, the return on investment just isn't anywhere near what they'd like. The result: you'll likely stick with discount office furniture long before splurging on new-age furniture.

Arguments for Work Safety and Tax Write-offs

One of the leading problems in workplace safety is carpal tunnel syndrome. This affliction is caused by poor posture in the workplace- something many brand name products fix. Some could argue that the company would be less responsible for injuries with these ergonomic brands of office furniture. In many respects, they are right- carpal tunnel is indeed a very real threat.

To help justify the cause, some argue that the tax write-offs that are available for office furniture makes the price of ergonomic designs much easier to stomach. This will put many office products in reach for businesses- but careful spending is still needed. There are limits to the tax write-offs, and even then, the tax breaks only come once a year.

One clever strategy many businesses engage in is last-minute shopping. That way they can get a return on their money much sooner, so waiting the year out isn't a problem (whereas the money could be better used in reinvesting into the business).

When Money Isn't an Option

If money wasn't an option, what should you splurge on? First and foremost, safety should be addressed. Chairs with supportive backs are a must. Keyboards and mice with ergonomic designs that counteract carpal tunnel are also worthy of a purchase.

Only after safety is addressed should one consider style and brand name options. It's nice to have a decorated office space to inspire and give a positive attitude. When money isn't an option, this will indeed benefit those who use the office. (Studies show interesting colors and styles do, in fact, inspire creativity and help overall efficiency on average.)

In the end, it's good to have an accountant nearby for tax advice, safety in mind, and a strong will to get the best office furniture for your company.

Mattress Buying Guide

Determine If You Need A New Mattress. One question with which we are always approached is, “How do I know if I need a new mattress?” The answer is not always an easy one to answer. You can tell when you need a new car because your old one starts breaking down more often. You can tell that you need a new television if your old one won't turn on. With your mattress, however, such visible, physical signs of needing a replacement are less obvious. In fact your mattress may look as good as the day you bought it, but its not the looks that counts. Mattresses are designed to alleviate the pressure put on your back, shoulders, neck and hips while you sleep. Your mattress should be replaced when it's no longer providing adequate support for any of these critical areas of your body. In order to determine whether your mattress is in need of a replacement ask yourself these questions:

1.Is the mattress more then 7 years old?
2.Do you wake up with back, neck, shoulder, or hip pain?
3.Do you spend more than 10-15 minutes tossing and turning before you can get to sleep?
4.Do you frequently experience “dead” legs or arms when you wake up?
5.Is your mattress sagging, lumpy, starting to come apart or showing visible signs of wear?
6.Have you recently noticed that other beds (at a mattress store, hotel, friend/family member's house) are more comfortable than your own?

While the life of a mattress depends on it's material and how well it was manufactured, if you answered “yes” to Question 1, then chances that its time to start looking for a replacement. We should note that a manufacturer's warranty does not necessarily guarantee that your mattress will continue to provide adequate support for the length of the warrantee. Usually a warranty simply means that a mattress manufacturer guarantee's against defects in quality. However, warranties do differ from one manufacturer to another, so be sure to read up on what the manufacturer of your current mattress has agreed to before purchasing a new mattress. If you answered “no” to Question 1, but “yes” to some of the other questions asked, then your bed may be new enough that it's not worn out, but it sounds like its not providing you with enough of or the right kind of support. There may also be special cases that warrant the purchase of a new mattress, such as when floods or damp conditions cause your bed to develop harmful mildew or mold.

Once you've determined that you'd be benefit from a new mattress, the next step involves making several key decisions that will help determine the mattress you'll go shopping for.

Determine What Size Mattress Is Right For You. Deciding what size mattress you need may be fairly straight forward. If you're simply replacing an existing mattress your decision is frequently limited by the size of the bed frame you're using. If you're looking to purchase a new mattress and frame here are some things you will want to consider:

1.How much space is there in the bedroom for a mattress?
2.How many people will be sleeping in the bed?
3.How satisfied were the people sleeping in the bed with the amount of space they had?
4.How much will it cost to upgrade to a larger bed, or how much will saved by purchasing a smaller mattress (not only the cost of the mattress, but also the sheets and bedding)?

While mattress sizes can vary some, here are typical mattress sizes:

Mattress Name Dimensions (Width x Length)

Determine What Type Of Mattress You Need. Beds have come along way since the single coil mattress. Mattresses now include a variety of new technologies and are frequently hybrids of two or more types of material. When shopping for a new mattress there are a couple things to keep in mind. First, you'll want to buy the best value, not the least expensive. An inexpensive mattress may save you money up front but cost you a fortune in chiropractor costs in the future. Similarly, the most expensive bed on the market may not be providing you with the right kind or right amount of support and/or comfort. Second, if you're going to be sharing your bed with someone else, make sure you bring them with you when you go shopping.

The mattress you find most comfortable may not be the most comfortable for your partner. If that's the case you'll want to find a mattress you can both agree is suitable, even if it's not your first choice. To properly evaluate each possibility you should lay on the mattress the same way as you'll be sleeping each night. Be sure to lay on the mattress for at least a few minutes. Some of the materials used in mattresses respond to both weight and heat, and can take several minutes to fully adjust to your body. If you move quickly from one bed to another you may be missing out on all a mattress has to offer. Finally be sure to learn as much about the advantages and disadvantages of each mattress material. To give you a starting point we will cover the most significant features of each material below.

Coil Mattresses:

Coil mattresses rely on steel coils that are tempered to give them additional strength and durability. The coils can be placed in a variety of different configurations to provide additional support to specific areas of the bed. A new coil spring beds is firm and is best at providing support for those who sleep on their back. In addition to being one of the more inexpensive mattress options on the market, coil springs are also easy to maintain. Regularly flipping the mattress helps prevent sagging, and ensures that you will get the most life out of your purchase. However, coil mattresses have a shorter lifespan than some of the other options out there. They can begin to sag within a year and wear out within 5 to 7 years. If those using the bed sleep on their sides, the mattress exerts greater pressure on the shoulders and hips causing spinal misalignment, which can lead to back and neck pain.

Visco Elastic/Memory Foam Mattresses:

Originally developed by NASA to make the pressure of space shuttle lift-offs more bearable, the foam has seen drastic reductions in price in recent years and is now a popular mattress material. The material gets its name from its ability to conform to the shape of an object and retain that shape for a period of time. While visco-elastic beds are typically more expensive than their coil counterparts, the quality can vary widely and is one of the main contributors to its price. Good quality memory foam means a firm bed that will evenly distribute your weight regardless of how you sleep. Some memory foams also respond to heat by becoming even more soft. Memory foam has lifespans between 10 and 20 years depending on quality. For those who have never owned a visco-elastic foam bed before there is typically a period of getting used to the “weightless” feeling the bed induces. New memory foam mattress owners may also notice a strong odor. While the odor does fade with time, it can continue to cause irritation, so be on the lookout for complaints from those sleeping on the bed. Also, memory foam by nature retains heat which some users find uncomfortable.

Waterbed Mattresses

Although waterbeds were first conceived in the late 1800s the modern bed that we're familiar with was developed in 1968. Waterbeds were initially popular for their ability to be heated (which was popular in colder climates) and for their ability to relieve pressure from the spine as the water in the bed conformed to the shape of the person using it. However, this same “free flow” design that relieves spinal pressure also results in waves being created each time weight is shifted on the bed. These waves can be distracting and can interrupt sleep. Waterbeds are difficult to move and are also prone to leaks, but last longer than most coil mattresses and are dust mite free.

Air Chamber Mattresses

Air mattresses come in a variety of designs and levels of quality. However, the driving principle of an air mattress is (as the name implies) that you inflate the mattress with an air pump to a level you find comfortable. Whether you're using a simple, single chamber mattress or a more advanced multi-chambered bed, you're able to control how firm the bed is by how much air you pump into the bed. The air in air mattresses behaves much in the same was as the water in waterbeds. The air in the mattress conforms to the shape of the body and helps to reduce the amount of pressure put on the spine. While air mattresses have a typical lifespan of 10+ years, there are more parts that can wear out and caues the mattress to loose its ability to provide adequate support and comfort.

Intelli-Gel Mattresses

Another recently developed technology that is being adapted to a number of products – everything from shoe insoles to backpack straps to hunting equipment to mattresses. Intelligel is different from other bedding materials because it works on a column buckling principle. Most other mattresses provide support by pushing against those protruding areas of the body. Intelli-Gel is different. Columns of elastic gel are placed next to each other across the mattress surface. The columns are designed to stand until a certain amount of weight is placed on them. When the columns' weight limit is reached the columns buckle, and becomes soft, while columns around the area remain firm and supportive. The result ends up being a bedding surface that is firm, supportive and comfortable. Also, because the Intelligel is broken into columns it doesn't retain heat like memory foam. Intelligel is used as the main material in some mattresses and is combined with coils, memory foam, and air chambers in others.

A couple other things to consider when looking at the different mattress options that are available is the mattress's warranty and whether the mattress comes with a foundation. As mentioned above, a mattress's warranty does not guarantee its useful life, but it does protect against manufacturing defects. Typical warranties run between 10 and 15 years and may last upwards of 20 years. Be sure to read what the warranty does and doesn't cover as it may save you time, money and headaches in the future. The foundation of your bed is an important part of how well you sleep each night. Chances are that if your mattress needs a replacement, your foundation does too. Some manufacturers will include a new foundation with the purchase of a mattress. If they don't be sure to ask the manufacturer which foundation will work best with your mattress as foundations and mattresses are commonly paired to provide you with the best sleeping experience possible.

Dispose of your old mattress. If you've determined you need a new mattress because you are no longer receiving the support you need, then the last thing you should be doing is passing that discomfort on to someone else. Rather than selling your mattress or passing it on to a family member or friend, check to see if the purchase of your new bed includes some sort of disposal for your old mattress. Frequently, the folks who deliver your new mattress will be able to take away your old bed. If you're embarrassed by the condition of an old, worn out mattress, you can use an old bed sheet as an inexpensive solution. Simply cover the old mattress with the old bed sheet, send it off and enjoy your new bed!

Determine what new accessories you'll need for your new bed. To further improve the support you get while you sleep you may also want to consider a new pillow. Like mattresses, pillows are also made in a variety of materials. Besides traditional feather and down, pillows now also incorporate combinations of latex rubber, memory foam, air chambers, Intelli-gel and more. Finding a pillow to compliment the comfort your new bed provides will help turn your night's sleep from good to great. Also, depending on the size mattress you purchased you purchased you may need new bedding. While a mattress's size is fairly standard in terms of its length and width, there are a variety of mattress depths being used to incorporate some of the new materials we've discussed. By sure to check the depth of your new bed to determine whether you'll need deep pocket sheets or larger blankets.

Why Choose A Memory Foam Mattress?

Quite simply, a memory foam mattress provides the best support out of any other type of mattress currently available. This is because the mattress is made from a new type of form called viscoelastic foam that yields under both pressure and temperature to conform exactly to a sleeper's body shape. No other type of mattress comes close to molding itself to the sleeper's body.

Pressure points are the parts of the body that press the most deeply into a mattress. It's this pressing down with a person's weight that that causes the aches and pains many can experience after sleeping on a mattress. If the mattress is too firm overall it will not yield causing the spine and shoulders to bend to accommodate the shape of the mattress. Conversely, if the mattress is too soft, it will fail to provide the support required.

Over the last century there have been a number of mattress types that have tried to address this problem, inner spring, air, water, foam, latex and so on. Although each has its plus points, none of them could satisfactory distribute weight evenly and so eliminate pressure points.

But recently we have seen the introductory of a new type of mattress often referred to as a memory foam mattress. This type uses a new material called viscoelastic foam. It differs markedly from ordinary foam in that its cell structure is open. This means the air bubbles are not distinct and air can pass from one bubble to the next, unlike ordinary foam where the air is locked inside the bubble. Viscoelastic is more complicated than this as it also responds to not only pressure but heat.

Viscoelastic is comprised of two words; 'visco' - having a relatively high resistance to flow or sticky and 'elastic' - the ability to return to a previous shape and being stretched or compressed.

Ordinary foam is elastic but it lacks the viscous quality; when compressed it bounces straight back to its original shape. But memory foam is different. When pressure and heat are applied, the air is slowly squeezed out to adjoining cells and when the pressure is taken away, the air slowly returns. It's this property that allows a memory foam mattress to momentarily retain an impression of your hand print when you remove it.

This unique quality makes viscoelastic foam ideal as a material for a bed mattress. It perfectly molds to the sleeper's body shape while supporting them.

The first such mattress was the Tempur-Pedic mattress and it was primarily used in hospitals where its pressure relieving qualities were noted. The company soon realized its product could also be in great demand by the general public and the first Tempur Pedic mattress was introduced in the early 1990s.

Many manufacturers now make their own version, including the big players like, Sealy, Serta and Simmons. As a bed mattress, memory foam is here to stay and is becoming more popular. Whether or not it'll topple the inner spring as the preferred choice most people remains to be seen.

Follow the links for a memory foam mattress and find out more about the Tempur-Pedic mattress and why many consider it to be the best mattress.

White Wicker Patio Furniture

White wicker patio furniture has been around for a long time. In the United States you could see white wicker furniture on farmhouse porches and grand plantations. Basically this was natural wicker that was painted in order to give it the clean, classy look that only white wicker can provide. Brown wicker can always be painted, but once painted it must be maintained and you can never get back to its original wood color.

Just picture a beautiful plantation home with white shingles and black shutters, large white pillars on a porch which has two or three white rockers finish off the look. These types of images can be seen in history books, movies and even television shows over and over again. They bring back ideas of a simpler time when people could take the tme to sit on their porch with loved ones and wind down at the end of the day. Many people have fond memories of grandparent's homes where they remember snuggling up with their loved ones on a cozy wicker couch with the warm sun beating down on them. It is really remarkable that a piece of furniture can create such strong feelings and emotions.

Today, if you are just longing to recreate those beautiful memories with some white wicker of your own there are products that are made out of a very strong and durable material called resin. This material is a synthetic material that can be woven into stunning creations of all types including boxes, chairs, planters, tables and wicker chaise lounges, but it will not deteriorate if exposed to sun or rain. It is really strong, durable and makes beautiful furniture. It can be dyed different colors such as blues, greens and yellows so you can match anything in your backyard from the shutters on your house to your favorite color flower, well maybe not every flower.

Resin wicker is really a great product for outdoor furniture because of its great qualities and durability. If you find yourself looking online for white wicker patio furniture you will want to take a look at resin furniture that is made with aluminum framing, so you can be sure it will last and last.

How To Pick Out Office Furniture

Whether you are picking out office furniture for your personal use or designing an office for a group of employees, it is an important task. The furniture you decide on will set the tone of the office for your employees, customers and other guests. It is important to choose a style that is neutral; not overly feminine or masculine. Neutral colors are also a good idea, as bold colors tend to have different effects on people. Comfort is important, but you also want to portray an atmosphere of professionalism, so not too comfortable.

The desk is the focal point of any office, no matter how large or small, and it will set the style for the rest of the office furniture. It is what makes an office an office and an appropriate workspace. The type of work being done will help determine the type of desk that is needed. If you or your employee will be making phone calls and typing on a computer the whole time, a large desk is not necessary. However, if the job is interior design or something else that would require space, a drafting table or a large flat desk is more appropriate.

As mentioned before, you do want your office furniture to be comfortable just not so comfortable that you or your employees don't get anything done. Somewhere between a metal folding chair and an overstuffed recliner there is a happy medium for an appropriate desk chair. There are many physical problems associated with sitting in one position most of the day, at a desk for example. A good desk chair should be able to adjust in height and lumbar support to help avoid back problems and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Depending again on the type of work that is going to be done, there may be use for shelves in your office. If that is the case, you have a myriad of options to choose from. Most office furniture retailers sell book shelves that match their desks and they are often sold as a set. If you have volumes of books you intend to keep on hand, you will need several sturdy book shelves. However, if your shelves will only serve to hold up a few family photos and to complement your other office furniture, you can go with shelves that mount directly to the wall to save some floor space. Somewhere in the same category as book shelves are filing cabinets. You may or may not have use for them, but they can also serve as a perfect spot for a printer, lamp or just a plant.

Once you have established the main pieces of office furniture you are going to use, you can go on to pick out the smaller details of the office. Lighting is important, and depending on where your office is located it may already have adequate lighting, or it may not. Home offices especially are difficult to get properly lit. It is hard to stay focused on your work when the soft pink glow of the 50 watt light bulb next to you is lulling you to sleep. Several lamps and lights throughout the office can allow you to adjust the amount of light you feel you need. Other accessories like picture frames and desk plants will come with time. You've mastered one of the important parts of a creating a conducive office environment, the furniture.

Maintaining Antique Furniture

Investing in Antique Furniture

Owing antique furniture is most definitely an asset. Anyone owning a piece of antique furniture may be able to get thousands of dollars, if it is in good condition. The value of your furniture piece depends on how old it is, where it was made, the level of craftsmanship and the condition it is in. There are things you can do to guarantee your furniture piece stays in a good condition and as a result maintain a high value.

Keeping your antique furniture clean

When cleaning antique furniture make sure that it becomes part of your regular cleaning routine; do not neglect your antiques. Dust your antiques every few days, once a week at the very least. Use a soft cloth to avoid scratches. Avoid using sprays of any kind especially those that include furniture polish. Chemicals used in the manufacturing of these sprays for the purpose of repelling dust and grime can actually damage your investment by staining the wood or causing weak spots. Cleaning antique furniture should be about preserving it rather than adding to the wear and tear. What you can use to clean your wooden antiques is orange oil; use it once a week. Consider waxing every few months as well. Applying a thin coat of wax to the wooden surface of your antiques will allow it to shine.

Protecting the wood

Cleaning antique furniture can damage the wood if it is not done correctly so make sure you use all the protection necessary. Clean any liquids that fall on the wooden surfaces immediately and do not allow the fluids to sit. Cleaning antique furniture in this instance would require dabbing the stain with a soft cloth until all of the solvent has been removed. Avoid wiping it away, because it could cause more damage. To maintain wooden antiques in the best possible way, keep them away from direct sunlight. Sunlight can contribute to discolouration and irreversible damage.

Maintaining a clean environment

Always keep in mind that antiques are old and sensitive. To avoid damaging your antique furniture, make sure that you keep your antiques in a clean room with constant temperatures. Large variations in temperature throughout the day can be damaging to your antiques. Some antique collectors use humidifiers in antique storage rooms to guarantee the best return for their investment in the long run.

Always remember, that antiques are primarily valuable because of their age and condition. What will add more value to your antique are factors such as quality, distinctiveness, splendor and period. Antique collectors are always looking for the best age to condition/quality ration antique.

Antique pieces are generally very expensive and not affordable by the common man. Acquiring an antique will set you back a few dollars. To ensure that these dollars don't go to waste you should follow the above tips on a regular basis. Keep in mind that antique furniture can add style to your home and surroundings; incorporating distinctive antique furniture pieces in your home layout ads class.

What is the Best Ergonomic Office Chair?

Anyone who has gone to an Office Depot or Staples or any of the other countless office supply stores has seen how many different office chairs that are available.

The question is, which one should you choose? One thing is for certain, as far as your back and neck goes, the color doesn't matter. However, plenty of other features do matter and can determine how your back feels at the end of your work day.

There are specific brand names that manufacture high end chairs that cost in the thousands of dollars. If you decide that a chair like that fits your needs by all means buy it.

On a regular basis I hear patients comment in a negative way about the expense of ergonomic office products. My response usually draws a correlation between the costs of their vehicle versus the cost of a good chair. Very few of us spend more than 8 hours per week in our cars that we spends tens of thousands of dollars on yet we often scoff at spending more than a few hundred bucks on a good chair that we sit in for 8 hours per day. That is some backwards logic isn't it?

That being said, you don't have to spend a small fortune on a good office chair. My chair fits all of my needs and I found it at Costco for about $100.

What features does a $100 chair need to have in order for it be the right chair for you?

This is a short list of general features that should be present in a good ergonomic chair.

1) It should have a high back
2) It should have arm rests
3) The backrest should recline and be slightly concave and include a 5 cm lumbar support
4) The seating surface should be able to tilt from front to back
5) The height of the chair should be adjustable
6) The armrest height should be able to adjust
7) You must be comfortable in it. A chair with all these features is worthless if you don't find it comfortable.

Learn How To Choose The Right Antique Furniture

The condition of an antique will certainly affect its value. Always look for flaws; at least one or two. When an antique does not have any flaws it means it has been refurbished. Look for antiques that have aged naturally. If the furniture has been cared for then it should be worth more. Also keep in mind that original pieces contribute to raising its value. After you acquired your antique handle it with care. Keep in a clean environment and maintain it regularly. One you need to avoid is over cleaning your item because it will remove the natural chemical formations on its surface. These formations are what give it its distinctiveness. Owning antique furniture is like an investment. The value of the antique, however, depends on a number of factors that are associated with the piece of furniture itself. The era, the age, the quality, are just a few indicators of price.

Antique furniture can add style to your home. Incorporating distinctive antique furniture pieces in your house can add calls in your surroundings. There are of course, a few things you should keep in mind before you buy that wonderful piece of furniture. For a piece of furniture to be considered an antique it should be older than 100 years old. Some say 60 but most collectors would agree on 100. Anything less is considered a collectible item. Its value clearly depends on the particularities of the piece. Georgian period furniture, Regency furniture or Victorian and Edwardian pieces offer a distinctive style that can easily be incorporated in most modern design homes. For the experienced interior designer, when antique furniture is placed in scarcity throughout a home, they enhance the décor by reflecting the actual value of the antiques. Rare antiques have a higher value. The rarity of the antique is determined by how many similar pieces of the same antique furniture are available for purchase.

Buying A Good Recliner

If you are looking to decorate your home with the best contemporary living room furniture, you need to look beyond the standard items like chairs, tables, sofas and beds. One piece of furniture that is being loved the world over is the recliner. It is a great piece of furniture to lie back and relax on after a hard day at the office. The space that was taken up the erstwhile easy chairs, has now given way to recliners that offer great support and comfort levels that far surpass any easy chair of yonder. This article will cover the various aspects that a home maker should consider before going in for a new recliner for his/her home.

There are certain basic things to look for in a recliner when you decide to go shopping. The first and foremost thing is obviously the degree of comfort offered by the recliner. Fixed position recliners are passé. You should look for the recliner that offers you the maximum range of reclining positions. The recliner should offer total body support and should have a strong, sturdy frame to take the body weight of overweight people as well. The portion that supports the back is the one you should pay extra attention to. The increasing sedentary lifestyles of people have led to a cascading increase in back and neck problems. Moreover, there is a large amount of evidence to show that many of these problems can also be attributed to poor back support, and hence it makes sense for you to look for correct ergonomics while choosing your chair. So, be sure to look at this aspect before anything else, including the price tag or even reducing your options to a few pieces whose design appeals to you.

Recliners are special items that are exclusive in nature, and hence are not to be found in all furniture stores that you come across. They were earlier more popular with owners of health resorts and spas, as well as some extremely rich people. No more. The health and relaxation benefits that come with owing a good recliner have made them increasingly popular, and you would now be able to find them in all good furniture stores. The increased production levels also mean that the recliners of the day are much more affordable than their earlier cousins.

Of the variety of materials that recliners are generally made of, synthetic leather recliners are the most popular, as are pure leather recliners. The soft yet tough material ensures maximum comfort for the user, and generally lasts pretty long as well. The pliable material makes the recliner most conducive for complete relaxation. No wonder it is preferred over fabrics that are more popular with other furniture items, such as cloth upholstery that is favored for sectional sofas.

Be the first mover and get ahead in the race with your next door neighbors. Buy a recliner to become the object of envy in your neighborhood and enjoy the extra attention.

Modern bedroom and living room furniture can be found at good discount furniture stores. Always compare prices and quality before you finalize.

Choosing The Dining Room Furniture

A Dining room is a seat of elegance and hospitality in a house. A dining room is special in the sense that it's a place where every household comes together and moreover, it is also the first room that a visitor sees. Therefore the selection of the best dining room furniture assumes paramount importance. There are many styles that you can choose in this regard and they range from the traditional to the contemporary and everything in between.

The Formal Dining Table

There are quite a number of dining tables that are available in the market today, and contemporary dining tables have lost a bit of their formality. This is because informal materials like stone, leather, glass etc are mixed together to give dining tables a less of an austere look, and offer a cozy, familial feeling.

The Modern Furniture

Contemporary furniture for the dining room is utilitarian in nature and has a sleeker design as compared to traditional furniture for the dining room. More often than not it is characterized by sharp, linear lines, and the focus is on giving the dining room a bare look. A contemporary style of furniture usually is available in dark colors like steel gray, black, etc.

If you are looking for a pleasant design when it comes to modern styling, then you will also find designs that have been incorporated into the furniture that increase its visual appeal. It will not be difficult to find furniture that has been accented by frosted glass or one that showcases the intricacies of butter leaves. Moreover, the choices when it comes to furniture for your dining room just open up, when you talk about furniture of a contemporary nature

The Perfect Furniture

The first aspect that you must think about while choosing furniture would be whether you want to go for wood furniture or furniture made from some other materials. Bear in mind that the furniture that you select must blend in with the existing décor of your dining room and also complement the flooring, roof and the color on the walls. If you choose to go for oak furniture then you must also choose the kind of finishing with due care, as it must also go with the flow of the whole room.

The size is another consideration that must be uppermost in your mind while making a choice. The furniture must be of such a size that it must not clutter the room. Another factor to consider is the affordability. This, taken together with the size or the room would dictate the composition and the amount of furniture that you need to purchase, and little things like the size and amount of dining chairs that you might want to buy and so on and so forth.

Hope the aspects mentioned above help you choose the perfect furniture for your drawing room.

Tips On How To Buy The Best Bed Mattress

With so many of us complaining that we don't get enough sleep, you'd think we'd have no trouble sleeping when we go to bed at night. However, more than 70 million Americans complain of not sleeping properly. Buying a new bed mattress can help, but how to choose the one that's best for you? Here are some tips to help you get the best bed mattress.

But how do you know if buying a new bed mattress will help you sleep better? Well, if you wake up in the morning with aches and pains, or if you sleep better when you stay at a friend's or relative's house or when you stay at a hotel, it could be an indication that it's time to change your mattress for a new one.

A mattress is the most important piece of furniture in your home, after all, you spend one-third of your life using it and getting enough sleep is the biggest contributor to feeling healthy. But buying a new one can be a confusing business - not to mention expensive. Americans spend more than $7 billion dollars a year on mattresses!

So, what to look for? The fact is you can't buy cheap and expect to sleep well. You will need to think of spending a minimum of $800 for a new queen-size mattress, no matter what type it is. Anything costing less, may feel great in the showroom but within a short time span you'll wish you'd spent more.

There are several types of mattress on the market; there's the traditional inner spring, pocketed spring, latex, air, water and the newest arrival; the memory foam mattress. Each has its merits. Inner spring has the feel that we're all used to and still makes up the vast majority of sales. If you do want an inner spring, make sure it has at least 390 coils and look for well-known, respected brands like Simmons, Kingsdown and Sealy Tempurpedic.

Air and water mattresses are specialist mattresses. Water mattresses have been improved lately to help prevent motion disturbance and air mattresses are feeling less and less like camping bed mattresses. The great thing about air is that you can adjust the firmness to just how you like it and most are split in half so partners can set their own preferred firmness.

Latex is making a bit of a comeback lately. Its strengths are that it's more eco-friendly than memory foam mattress but still conform to a sleeper's body shape; it doesn't need flipping and it's very non-allergenic.

The memory foam mattress is the latest type of mattress and is becoming very popular. The viscoelastic foam is unlike ordinary foam as it conforms to body shape rather then just gets squashed down. It's very good at spreading weight evenly thereby eliminating pressure points.

Whichever type you choose you should always test it before you buy. Never buy online unless you've first had a chance to try it for real in a store. When you do go along, dress in loose fitting, comfortable clothing and lie down of the mattress for at least 15 minutes in your favorite sleeping position.

Many bed mattresses come with pillow tops nowadays. If you do decide to buy one of these types you may find that it develops ruts and craters after a comparatively short time. If this happens, you'll need to replace the whole mattress even though the rest of the mattress is fine.

Be prepared to negotiate price. Don't be afraid to ask for price reductions, especially if you've seen cheaper prices online. Even if they won't move on price they may throw in a few goodies like pillows, bedding, free deliver, free disposal of your old mattress and extended warranties etc.

This brings us to the most important point: warranties. Before you buy find out exactly the warranty of the bed mattress. Look for the most generous and read the small print; most companies won't accept returns if there's the slightest mark on the mattress. And, always leave the tag on.

There's no such thing as the best bed mattress, but by doing a little homework you should be able to find the perfect one for you.

Top 8 Tips For Buying The Perfect Garden Furniture

It can be overwhelming when trying to figure out what furniture to buy for your garden. With the arrival of spring, garden centres are packed with furniture of all types. Patio sets, benches, statues, fountains, barbecues, the list is endless. The process may seem daunting at first, but it doesn't have to be stressful or overwhelming. Here are eight simple tips to help you buy the right furniture and have fun at the same time.

Tip #1: Decide how you will use your garden. Do you want room to stretch out and sun tan or will you want to have lots of people over for a barbecue and eat outside? If you are planning to eat outside, then make sure you have plenty of table space to hold all the food and dishes you need. If you eat inside, but bring your drinks outside after dinner, then small bistro tables will suit you just fine. If you are planning on having a lot of people over, you will need to ensure that you have adequate seating for everyone.

Tip #2: Measure the exact size of your garden or backyard before buying patio furniture, statues or fountains. Most garden centres are large and it is easy to lose the scale of your garden. What looks small at a garden centre could be too large for your garden. When you find furniture that you like, take measurements and then go back to your garden or backyard. Tape up cardboard boxes together so that they are roughly the same size as the furniture you wish to buy. Next, place the cardboard boxes in your yard. This will show you how much room the furniture will actually take up in your garden.

Tip #3: Buy at the end of the season to get the best sales. This is the best way to get the most out of your budget. It can also help to establish a good relationship with the staff at the garden centre because they can tell you when the sales will start and how much of a certain item is left in stock. When something goes on sale, it can be sold out fast, especially if there is limited stock.

Tip #4: Visit a lot of different garden centres to see all the different furniture ideas out there. Make it a fun outing of window shopping. Without the pressure to buy something, the trips won't be stressful or overwhelming. Plus, this will give you the time to compare prices and quality of the furniture available.

Tip #5: Keep the style consistent. When everything in your backyard has the same style, it will be in harmony, you will feel more relaxed and you will want to show it off to everyone. Plus, once you have established what your tastes are, you will be able to ignore the furniture that doesn't fit with that style, which will reduce your stress when buying new garden furniture.

Tip #6: Consider how much maintenance you are willing to do. Will you have to bring the cushions in every time it rains? If so, where will you put them? Can you leave the furniture outside during the winter or will you have to store it for the season? Do you have a place inside your house to store furniture for the winter? If an item requires a lot of maintenance and you're not prepared to do it, then it just won't last. No matter how much you like the look of the furniture in the store, don't buy it if you can't maintain it.

Tip #7: Know your budget. It's easy to get carried away and want to buy everything you see. But don't. Set a limit and stick to it. You can always add more furniture next year. Plus, if you really see something you like, let your friends and family know. They can always get together to buy it for you or give you a gift certificate to the store.

Tip #8: How comfortable is the furniture you are buying? If you plan to sit on a bench or chair in your backyard for hours, it had better be comfortable. Contoured furniture and cushions go a long way in adding comfort. Keep the stone benches for occasional seating and to add to the ambiance of the setting.
